Craniosacral Therapy

Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a light touch form of bodywork designed to release physical and energetic restrictions from soft tissue, especially the fascia (connective tissue). The Craniosacral therapy practitioner uses 1 to 5 grams of pressure to generate an electromagnetic signal that reduces stress in the Central Nervous System, enhancing overall functioning of the body. It supports and sometimes enhances other forms of therapy being used. We find that this can be exceptionally useful when working with restrictions caused by accident, injury or emotional trauma thereby improving the physiological functioning of the entire body. CST is NOT massage, bony manipulation (chiropractic or osteopathic manipulation) or energy transfer (Reiki or Therapeutic Touch).

The adult client typically rests on a table fully clothed. Children typically can receive therapy while quietly playing, or if old enough, on the table. Infants may be treated while they are feeding or in their mothers’ arms.

The client may feel subtle sensation during the session as restrictions in the soft tissues release. Clients report feeling very relaxed during and after the session. Babies may become very quiet or even fall asleep. Body changes continue for up to four days after a typical session. After this four day reorganization process, the client often feels a definitive move toward resolution of the pain or dysfunction.

The number of sessions required for any given issue depends on the age of the problem, the severity of the accident or injury, the extent of involvement of the body, the level of stress in the client’s life, the specific areas of the body affected and the experience level of the therapist. Each session lasts about 60 minutes.
