Haller Method
Maxine Haller, OTR/L developed the Haller MethodTM after training in multiple cutting edge modalities that helped her integrate multiple principles into her OT sessions. These same modalities like Rhythmic Movement Training were not well adapted to use on newborn infants so Maxine, inspired to codify these cutting edge principles into a teaching method for use with newborn babies, used the principles to create a series of “exercises” that would achieve superior results.
The Haller MethodTM focuses on infants who have deficits of reflex emergence and activation during gestation and childbirth that in turn create deficits in function that adversely impacts breastfeeding and infant motor and cognitive development. The specially formulated exercises act on the vestibular, biomeridian and fascial systems to restore optimal proprioception to the brain thereby reestablishing proper alignment, function and sensorimotor activity.
All of the Spirit of Healing staff members have been personally trained by Maxine to assess infants for deficits and create exercise plans for infants demonstrating deficits. The Lactation Therapists utilize these skills within their Lactation and Craniosacral sessions when working with infants and young children.
