Infant sucking dysfunction is on the rise, challenging the knowledge and skills of lactation professionals. In this five day class, Dr. Hazelbaker teaches participants multiple skills and strategies to successfully meet the challenge of sucking dysfunction. Dr. Hazelbaker will cover normal anatomy and physiology; suck disorganization and its causes; and suck dysfunction and its causes. Participants will participate in various learning exercises to engage with the information and techniques taught in class. Dr. Hazelbaker will also demo a lactation consult with a mother-baby dyad to show strategies and techniques in action. As a result of this, class participants will be better able to identify a sucking problem; differentially diagnose sucking disorganization and sucking dysfunction; devise strategies to reorganize disorganized babies and resolve sucking dysfunction.
