Using Classic Grounded Theory Methodology, this study advances an original theory of healing that embraces the somatic, psychological and spiritual dimensions of human form, function and process. Utilizing the Grounded Theory techniques such as coding, theoretical sampling and sorting to examine the healing stories of real people and relevant data from multiple other sources, this study found that the biological-mechanical model proposed by Western medicine fails to adequately explain how and why people heal. Rather, people heal largely unaided by conventional “cures” and due to their own conscious efforts, albeit at varying paces, depending on their skills. People heal by being their own agents of cure as they perform a dynamic dance with others (the Compassionate Embrace) and with their own consciousness (the Intentional Stance). This dynamic interchange happens in a patterned way, utilizing specific forms of resources. People heal according to a universal process. The healing process serves evolution by bringing the healee into contact with their most authentic and greatest selves as they bring fragmented and wounded parts into the greater whole that resides within.
